  • Hough's Neck (Quincy), H.Necker (guest) wrote 16 years ago:
Hough's Neck is densely populated peninsula radiating from the mainland of Quincy, Massachusetts into Boston Harbor. It may appear less populated from above as the view does not clearly distinguish tidal and marsh lands from habitable terrain. Affectionatly reffered to as "God's Country" by the locals for its pristine location, Hough's Neck was once a popular vacation spot for Bostonian elites. Today it is home to a year-round residential population comprised primarily by working and middle class persons of Irish-Catholic dissent. It is a very tight knit community with many multi-generational families living on this narrow stretch of land.

There are awesome views of the Boston skyline, Massachusetts Bay, and even Boston Light, from this beach! Cleanup efforts must be working, as wading water birds have been making a gradual comeback in recent years. I have spotted many in the surrounding waterways and estuaries.
